Linkevičiaus had a telephone conversation with the new U.S. administration’s national security adviser: strategic Lithuania-U.S. relations to remain strong
“In order to meet new security challenges, the transatlantic relationship has to be stronger and more reliable than ever before, and the U.S. leadership in Europe should be strong and highly visible,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.
Linkevičius noted that Lithuania would continue to be firmly committed to increase the country’s defence spending and consistently meet its obligations.
“We will be committed to our defence in a responsible way also in the future and this commitment is strongly supported by all political parties,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.
During the conversation, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister voiced hope that the strategic partnership between the United States and Lithuania would develop in the same spirit.
“Lithuania and the United States enjoy a strong friendship and share common values. This is a basis for our ongoing efforts to strengthen multifaceted ties between our countries and people-to-people contacts,” said Linkevičius.
Flynn assured Linkevičius that the relationship between the United States and Lithuania would remain same robust in security, trade, economy and other fields.
Trump’s national security adviser also conveyed greetings from the President-elect to the leadership and people of Lithuania.
Linkevičius and Trump’s national security adviser agreed that they would seek to hold a bilateral meeting in the short run.
